Google Doodle game celebrates Zamboni inventor

Google

By Rosa Golijan

A Google Doodle ? a redesigned version of the Google homepage logo ? often appears to mark a special occasion or celebrate a significant figure ... and Wednesday's Doodle is no exception. It's here?in honor of what would've been Frank Zamboni's 112th birthday. Yes, he did invent what you think he invented.

About 60 years ago, Zamboni came up with his namesake invention, a self-propelled ice-resurfacing machine.

Google's delightful way of marking the anniversary of this invention is an interactive game which allows you to control a tiny little Zamboni (which appears to be a Model 500) using the arrow keys on your keyboard. Be quick and don't move around aimlessly though???because there is a fuel gauge.

If you haven't been paying much attention to Google Doodles, you should know that Wednesday's is just one of many fun ones. The search engine giant has made plenty of Doodles?? plain and interactive?? over the years. Some of the most best ones include a?playable Les Paul guitar, an?animated interpretation of John Lennon's "Imagine," and a?dancing Martha Graham-inspired piece.

You can catch up on all of the Doodles you've missed by hitting the "I'm Feeling Lucky" button on the Google homepage without entering a query. Try it. It's?a not-so-secret shortcut?to the magical Google Doodle archive.
